Fasting 101 (The Basics)

It's 2019, and that means we get to, DO WHATEVER THE HELL WE WANT!! So..
We named not-eating for periods of time, "fasting". And it became a thing.

Fasting has been around forever, mostly in the religious sense. Some of the most important people on earth have utilized fasting to enhance a lot of their lives, not just in their physique/weight.

Most modern day fasting isn't done for a month or 7 days or even 3 or 4 days, like it was originated. Fasting in today's age means essentially means time-restricted eating.

You can fast for 16 hours, and eat your meals in an 8 hour window (16:8). 16 & 8 equate to a full 24 hour day, which is our standard of measurement when thinking diet. Some people fast for 20:4 (20 hours of no food, 4 hours of food). I encourage people who do eat 4-6 meals a day, start 12:12, and only fast for half the day, as it's a big adjustment if your body has been trained to get hungry every few hours.

Benefits:
Fasting takes the "overindulgence" idea and scraps it as much as possible. If you usually have 3 meals, and say a snack or 2 per day, that's A LOT of opportunities to over-consume on calories.

Fasting gives you the opportunity to eat 1-2 times a day. And in my eyes, the less meals, the less opportunities to overindulge. (although some people would say you have to overindulge in your 1 or 2 meals to get your calories in, which is also true, but can boast for its own positive effects).

Fasting can be a huge tool for you (I've fasted most days of every week for over 2 years) to maintain, gain, and ESPECIALLY lose weight. It has allowed me to be more free with my diet. I spend less time thinking about food, and more time on things that I also care about.

Fasting does take some adjustment, you will likely experience hunger or even hanger pangs (so hungry you're angry about it) in the first 2-3 weeks, but the body adapts to it.

It's not for everyone, but it is simple, it's out of sight out mind, (what could be easier than not having to think about eating for a majority of your busy day) and it is the perfect fat loss program for the busy individual!
